Sights & Highlights

Day 1

Hanoi to Pu Luong Nature Reserve

We leave Hanoi via the Old Quarter, and follow the Red River southbound, to continue our way through the countryside. We continue our way to Pu Luong Nature Reserve. This truly is a hidden paradise, well-known for the rice terraces, vast forests, and Vietnamese watermills. We spend the night in Pu Luong, either in a homestay or bungalow.

Day 2

Pu Luong Nature Reserve to Ninh Binh

Early in the morning, you can hunt for the best sunrise overlooking the famous Pu Luong rice terraces. After breakfast, we continue our way through the countryside to Ninh Binh. Early in the afternoon, we arrive in Ninh Binh, so we have plenty of time to explore the area. We drive to the Mua Cave Viewpoint, from which you have an amazing view over the impressive limestone mountain range. Next, we visit the ancient town of Hoa Lu. We spend the night at a hotel in Ninh Binh.

Day 3

Ninh Binh to Thanh Chuong

In the morning, you can explore the magnificent Tam Coc – listed as UNESCO World Heritage – by boat. Next, we explore the original Ho Chi Minh Trail. The trail is a legendary and complex system of 1,600 kilometers of paths, roads, and rivers, used as a supply route during the Vietnam War. On our way to Thanh Chuong, famous for the “Tea Islands”, we visit a tobacco plantation and a rice paper factory. We spend the night in homestay.

Day 4

Thanh Chuong to Phong Nha

After breakfast, we continue our way on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. On the way, you will see fields of plywood drying in the sun. We’ll visit one of the plywood factories and see how rice paper is being made. We will spend two nights in a hotel in Phong Nha.

Day 5

Phong Nha

Since we have driven quite a bit over the past four days and the caves of Phong Nha are best explored on foot and by boat, we will leave the motorbike be today. By boat you can explore the Hang Toi Cave, better known as the Dark Cave. Deep inside the cave you can relax in one of natural mud baths. The second cave you can visit is Paradise Cave, one of the most impressive caves in Phong Nha. Stretch your legs even more and end the day with a bicycle ride through the nearby rice fields.

Day 6

Phong Nha to Khe Sanh

We will drive over the Ho Chi Minh Trail with its spectacular views: lots of jungle, waterfalls and traditional villages of the Paco and Van Kieu. We will stop in one of the villages so you can see what the local life here is like. After a delicious Vietnamese lunch we drive over the Sa Mu mountain pass to the Khe Sanh army base, where impressive aircrafts are on display. We’ll have dinner and stay in a hotel in Khe Sanh.

Day 7

Khe Sanh to Cua Tung

After breakfast we drive to Ta Con, one of the airports used by American soldiers during the Vietnam War, and Camp Caroll, a former American naval base. We visit Truong Son National Cemetery, a cemetery for soldiers who fell during the Vietnam War. By crossing the Ben Hai (river) over the Hien Luong bridge we also cross the border between the former North and South Vietnam. In the afternoon we explore the Vinh Moc tunnels and drive along the coast to the beaches of Cua Tung, where we will spend the night.

Day 8

Cua Tung to Hue

Today, we mostly drive along the coast, and see the fishermen at work. When we arrive in Hue we visit the Imperial City and the seven-story high Thien Mu Pagoda. In the evening you have time for yourself, so you can check out the local night market.

Day 9

Hue to Hoi An

We will leave Hue via the Tu Duc tomb, one of the most impressive tombs in the country. We drive along Highway 1 to Sampan, where people live on their boats and live off fishing in the largest lagoon in Southeast Asia. Via the Hai Van Pass – by car show Top Gear declared one of the most beautiful roads in the world! – we will continue to China Beach and the Marble Mountains, where we can admire the many hidden caves and mountain temples.

Additional costs

Boat and conservation fee for the Phong Nha caves are excluded.

All breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, drinks and any other personal expenses. Expect your daily costs to be about €10 per person for meals and drinks throughout the day.

Pick-up & Drop-off

All tours start between 8 and 9 AM in the morning. After booking with us, one of our Easy Riders will contact you with the exact pick-up time. Your Easy Rider will pick you up at your hostel or hotel in the departure city.

At the end of your tour – usually late afternoon, before dinner – you’ll be dropped off at the accommodation of your choice in the destination city. Make reservations before arrival, because our riders only make one stop for drop-off.

Arriving by bus or train?

We can arrange pick-ups and drop-offs at bus or train stations if you arrive before 9 AM in the morning. Start your tour fresh of the night bus or train – we’ll stop for breakfast along the way!
Provide us with the necessary information (departure and arrival station, name of the bus company, estimated time of arrival) by adding it to the booking form.

If you have a flight on the night your tour ends, our guides are happy to drop you off at the airport of the arrival destination. Just make sure you allow enough time for check-in and boarding.

What is an Easy Rider motorbike tour?

An Easy Rider is a Vietnamese guide on a motorbike. Our Easy Riders are English-speaking, licensed tour guides who know the ins and outs of Vietnamese roads, nature, history and culture. Touring with an Easy Rider means that you comfortably sit on the back of the motorbike behind the guide – wearing protective gear – while you travel from one city to the next, stopping regularly to enjoy sights, local experiences, drinks and meals.

Tours start between 8 and 9 AM, and end between 3 and 5 PM. Your Eay Riders picks you up and drops you off at your accommodation. Multiple day tours include overnight stays.

How to book (availability, payment)

Booking
On the tour page, fill in the number of people you book for – choose between sitting behind the guide and self-driving – and select the date(s). Click ‘book now’ and follow the steps to complete your booking.

Payment
You pay a small deposit by online payment; the remaining amount you pay at the start of the tour.

Confirmation

How far in advance should I book?
You can book tours departing from Dalat, Hoi An and Hue shortly beforehand. For popular multiple-day tours (like the Ha Giang Loop), we advice you to book ahead. It’s okay if you don’t know your pick-up or drop-off location yet, you can let us know later.

Self-driving & International Driving Permit

On the tour, you can drive yourself if you are:

a party of at least two people; on every tour at least one person sits behind an Easy Rider.
in possession of a valid motorcycle license (A1 or A2), and;
in possession of a valid 1968-version of the International Driving Permit (IDP), obtained in your home country;

We will make sure to get you a well maintained motorbike (manual or clutch) and protective gear. The rate for sitting on the back or driving your own bike is the same, gasoline is included.

For safety reasons, we don’t allow passengers on the motorbikes for self-driving.

Luggage

Each person can bring one (1) backpack or suitcase (max. 20 kg / 44 lbs) and one (1) daypack or handbag on the tour. Even pretty big hard scale suitcases can be tied to the back of the motorbike as long as they are not over 20 kg (44 lbs); it’s more about weight distribution than size.

All luggage is put in waterproof bags and tied to the front or back of the motorcycle.

Is it a private tour or do we ride in groups?

On most occassions, it’s just you and your Easy Rider(s): a private tour.

During peak seasons (July & August, November – February), we sometimes combine multiple bookings to a small group. This group then consists of all the guests who have booked the same route on the same date(s). This is most common on our popular day tours (covering the Hai Van Pass).

Our Ha Giang Loop tours are always private tours. For us, this is an important way to distinguish our tours in this region from the awfully big groups some operators ride with.
