The rice terraces around Mu Cang Chai are easily the most spectacular and beautiful of the whole country and it’s hard to choose between the dreamy mountains of Moc Chau and the surreal beauty of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. So we’ve included them both!

Sights & Highlights

Day 1

Hanoi to Tu Le H’mong village

We leave Hanoi and follow the Red River westbound, to the ancient village of Duong Lam. On the way, you will see fields of plywood drying in the sun. We’ll visit one of the plywood factories and see how rice paper is being made. We take a stroll on a local market of the H’mong, one of the biggest etnic groups in Vietnam. We drive on to Tu Le, one of the biggest rice terraces of northwest Vietnam, where we stay in a comfortable homestay run by a colourfol H’mong family.

Day 2

Tu Le to Mu Cang Chai

We cross the Khau Pha Pass – or Horn of Heaven – on our way to Mu Cang Chai, through a region famous among the Vietnamese for its endless mountains of rice fields. We stop at the top of the pass to enjoy the view. We’ll visit the rice terraces of Lao Chai and Lao Chai village. In Mu Cang Chai, we stay in bungalows ín the rice fields, so you can enjoy wonderful views from your personal porch. In the evening, we enjoy a family style dinner with our H’mong hosts.

Day 3

Mu Cang Chai to Moc Chau

After we leave the sprawling rice fields of Mu Cang Chai, we drive into more forresty surroundings. We visit a secret village, so deep in the jungle you’re phone won’t work, the natural habitat of the Red H’mong etnic group. It’s very interesting to learn about their ways and traditions. We continue our way and stop at the Dai Yem waterfalls, with a pristine area for swimming. In Moc Chau, we stay in a hotel.

Day 4

Moc Chau to Pu Luong

Plenty to see and learn today! In the morning, we visit the Moc Chau tea plantations, one of the biggest plantations in Vietnam. Oolong, Kim Tuyen, and Shay Tuyet tea are grown here. This area is also famous for its plums. We visit one of the orchards, where you see how this fruit is grown. And try one if you like!

After lunch, we continue our way to Pu Luong Nature Reserve. This truly is a hidden paradise, well-known for the rice terraces, vast forests, and Vietnamese watermills. We spend the night in Pu Luong, either in a homestay or bungalow.

Day 5

Pu Luong to Ninh Binh or Hanoi

Today, you decide our next and final destination of this tour: Ninh Binh or Hanoi. We ride south to Ninh Binh, where you can enjoy the rock formations to be found amid sleepy villages, waterways, and rice fields. Or we ride east, back to bustling Hanoi, with its narrow streets and historic sights. Either way, you get to enjoy one more day off the beaten track, riding through the Vietnamese countryside.

The tour ends at your accommodation or the train station in Ninh Binh or Hanoi.

Additional costs

All breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, drinks and any other personal expenses. Expect your daily costs to be about €10 per person for meals and drinks throughout the day.

Pick-up & Drop-off

All tours start between 8 and 9 AM in the morning. After booking with us, one of our Easy Riders will contact you with the exact pick-up time. Your Easy Rider will pick you up at your hostel or hotel in the departure city.

At the end of your tour – usually late afternoon, before dinner – you’ll be dropped off at the accommodation of your choice in the destination city. Make reservations before arrival, because our riders only make one stop for drop-off.

Arriving by bus or train?

We can arrange pick-ups and drop-offs at bus or train stations if you arrive before 9 AM in the morning. Start your tour fresh of the night bus or train – we’ll stop for breakfast along the way!
Provide us with the necessary information (departure and arrival station, name of the bus company, estimated time of arrival) by adding it to the booking form.

If you have a flight on the night your tour ends, our guides are happy to drop you off at the airport of the arrival destination. Just make sure you allow enough time for check-in and boarding.
